My favorite artists - Vincent Van Gogh

Recently I said I wanted to make a post to share my favorite artists, and since I'm currently resting between adventures I thought now would be a good time. I spend a lot of time collecting art on Pinterest and reading so I think that talking about art and books I like would be nice things to share on this blog.

I decided I want to make several posts about specific artists. Today's post is about Vincent Van Gogh. A famous artist of course but his life and personality are so precious and more people I think should take the time to come to know him beyond just his art.

I would strongly recommend that anyone who has an interest in him or his art should watch the film 'Loving Vincent', it is one of my favorite films and is a beautiful story about him, but what's most interesting is that the entire film is painted in the style of his art.

Vincent was a beautiful person who struggled with mental illness in a time when it was scarcely understood (and it still seems to be misunderstood and misinterpreted today.) The best way to come to know him as a person is to read his letters, I think it's very comfortable to read them and especially to pretend that they are letters written to me. I love writing letters, to loved ones and to myself, on my birthday every year I write a letter for myself to open the following birthday. I've been doing this for years now, and reading a message from my younger self and writing to my future self makes me feel some congruence with all the versions of myself, past, present and future.

Above is my favorite painting from Vincent, only because Absinthe was once my favorite drink and it makes me very happy that we had similar tastes. If you've never had it before, you should try it (If you like the taste of licorice, that is.) Have a glass and think of Vincent.
