Reading Update #2

Today is world book day and I thought it was as good a day as any to make a reading update. When I last posted one I had read 18 books this year, as of today I have read 33, so continuing on from "Legends and Lattes":

19-20. These were two issues of a manga called "The guy she was interested in wasn't a guy at all." It's a Yuri I found at Kinokuniya in NYC, I usually don't count manga etc on my reading list but I'm not sure why I do that, it is still reading. I have a huge weakness for Yuri manga and any media involving Lesbians period.

21. The Arrival as pictured above, though to say I "read" it is also strange, as it doesn't have words, the story is just told in images. I got it on Ellis island, as it is a story about immigrants in a strange and fantastical land. It's very beautiful and emotional. I read it once as a child but had taken it as a literal fantasy story. It means a lot to me now.

22. The elementals, this was a book club thing and it was very good. Southern Gothic with creatures that very much reminded me of Faeries.

23. Heap earth upon it, Irish lesbian Pearl, I don't know how else to describe it. If you liked Pearl and you like lesbians you will enjoy this.

24. Fairylore, it's a Faerie encyclopedia with beings from all over the world, good for people who have been studying them for years and newcomers, there are always new ones to learn about.

25. The Changeling, this was very dreamlike and nightmarish at once, reading it while having a depressive episode made it almost disassociative, I loved it.

26. Murder on the Orient express graphic novel, this was a lot of fun, graphic novel format is perfect for Agatha Christie books.

27. This is how you lose the time war, this was a recommendation from a friend that I did not enjoy. But I don't really wanna go into why so much because it is a favorite of someone I respect. I can see why other people like it, I just did not vibe with it, even if it is lesbians.

28. Authority, this is the second book in the Southern Reach series (I spoke about Annihilation before) I am obsessed with this series I NEED to continue it immediately.

29. Sharp Objects, another book club read, I enjoyed the HBO series and I did like the book, Gillian Flynn's writing makes me deeply uncomfortable.

30. Strange Buildings, this was another Uketsu novel and the sequel to Strange houses, very Japanese as I posted about on instagram, cult activity, stigmatized property, gang and predator activity, I love his work.

31. A requiem for love, just a bit of bible fanfiction I got and read on a whim. Lovely prose.

32. The secret history, also a book club read, I fell in love with Henry at first, but that gradually faded. I am not interested in Greek/Roman mythos, philosophy etc (I am a BIG Celtic/Nordic person, rather.) and I found all of them so pretentious and by the end I felt like, you know what, you were all insufferable cunts. I hated Camilla and realized it was because I saw myself in her, and I have a long-standing bad habit of hating female characters who remind me of myself. Healthy way of "self" hating? Unhealthy? No clue but it was objectively good.

33. The runes of Elfland, just good Brian Froud fun.

I had wanted to do "What I read in (month)" posts but I always forget to post. So here we are near the end of April, but I'm sure I will have read more things by May.
