The Bookshelf grand opening

I was so honored this weekend to have some of my poetry featured at the grand opening of The Bookshelf, one of my poems was given away with every purchase, though they ran out a few hours before the end of the event, I really wish I had printed more!

These were the poems which were featured:

  1.  A Changeling is a Faerie child swapped with a human child at birth.

  2. The ogham (The lines at the top) spell Aisling, my “magical name” which I received in a dream and use in Pagan spaces.

  3. As I explained on instagram, This is about not just my identifying with Changelings (I am dead serious about this) but about being raised not to conform, not to clip my pointed ears or cut my tail or file my teeth to fit into a world of humans who will never accept me regardless. On a less fantastical note it’s about my race, finally embracing curly hair and dark skin because the people who don’t like to see it will never accept me whether I straighten my hair or not, and that is okay, because my place in their world is one I fought for and will keep and they can complain eternally.

I wrote this while on the train to NYC when I was looking at what struck me as a scary and uninhabited (at least by living folk) place and my phone told me I was in South Carolina.

I wrote this about something I saw from the train as well. Dark water is full of ghosts no matter where it is.

This was the only poem that was not written this year. I wrote this year before last while on the train in Sweden. I intend to write a great deal over the Summer. I seem to become most inspired while on the train.

Some of my poetry will be at a cafe I visit frequently soon, when I've finished making collages for them I'll post/explain them here too!
